The 2014 University of Northern Iowa football schedule will feature six home games for the second consecutive season and two matchups with Football Bowl Subdivision opponents in Iowa and Hawai’i.

UNI will open the 2014 season Aug. 30 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa, against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. It will mark the fifth matchup between UNI and Iowa since the 1997 season opener.

The Panthers will begin its slate of six home games on Sept. 6 in the UNI-Dome against Morgan State University. Morgan State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and is located in Baltimore, Md. This will be the first meeting between UNI and Morgan State in football.

UNI will then head to the Hawaiian Islands to take on the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors on Sept. 13. It will mark the first matchup between UNI and Hawai’i in football. Former UNI head coach and athletic director Stan Sheriff also served as Hawai’i’s athletic director from 1983-1993. Sheriff is UNI’s all-time winningest football coach with 129 victories. UNI head coach Mark Farley has posted 111 wins heading into the 2014 season.

The Panthers will return home on Sept. 20 to take on the University of Northern Colorado Bears in UNI’s annual Homecoming game. UNI scored a 26-7 win over Northern Colorado this past season in Greeley, Colo.

UNI will observe a bye week on Sept. 27 before opening Missouri Valley Football Conference play with a pair of road games. UNI will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 4 to take on the Indiana State Sycamores. UNI and Indiana State have not met since the 2011 season. It will be UNI’s first trip to Terre Haute since the 2010 season.

The Panthers will then head to Vermillion, S.D., to take play the University of South Dakota Coyotes on Oct. 11.

UNI will play host to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits for the Panthers’ Family Weekend on Oct. 18.

Following another conference road game at Western Illinois on Oct. 25, UNI will return to the comforts of the UNI-Dome for three home games in its final four weeks of regular season action.

The Panthers will take on the Illinois State Redbirds in the UNI-Dome on Nov. 1. UNI will then square off against the three-time defending FCS champion North Dakota State Bison and its new head coach former Panther Chris Klieman on Nov. 8.

After its final road MVFC contest of the season on Nov. 15 at Southern Illinois, UNI will honor its senior class on Nov. 22 when the Panthers welcome the Missouri State Bears to the Dome.

The 2014 FCS playoffs begin Nov. 29 and are capped by the national title game in Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 3, 2015.
