When Waterloo West competes on the softball diamond this summer, the Wahawks will take the field with a new head coach.

The Waterloo Board of Education Monday night approved the selection of Adam Dehl to guide the Wahawks' program, starting in May. Dehl has served as an assistant the previous two seasons under former Head Coach Ashley Reimer.

Dehl has been coaching softball for 16 years in the Waterloo Optimist program. He also helped oversee the Junior Wahawk Softball program for seven years.

“I am very happy to announce Adam Dehl as our new head varsity softball coach," West Director of Athletics Dr. Anthony Pappas said. "I know he will work very hard to improve our softball program. He will be very vested in the work needed to help all of our softball players and teams improve.”

Reimer coached the West the past two seasons, after the Board approved her hiring in November 2018. Under her guidance, the Wahawks finished the 2019 season with a 6-32 record and ended the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign with a 2-17 mark.
