A Waterloo teenager has been detained on charges connected to the city's fourth homicide of the year.

On Thursday, police arrested 17-year-old Alvonni Stone on charges of first-degree robbery and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Court records show that Stone is charged as an adult in the case.

Stone was taken into custody following an investigation into a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday just after 4:30 PM while heavy rain was falling in the city. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Washington Street, which is also U.S. Highway 218.

Police identified a man shot and killed outside a downtown Waterloo convenience store Tuesday afternoon as 20-year-old Dayton Sanders of Waterloo. Officials also released the victim's name on early Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Sanders was shot outside Kwik Stop 3. He made his way across the street, before collapsing. Authorities found Sanders' in the highway median, where he was suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials said Sanders died a short time later.

The incident forced officials to close off streets in the area around convenience store. All southbound lanes of U.S. 218 were shutdown at the height of rush hour and traffic was rerouted into the nearby neighborhood. All roads in the area were reopened by 7:30 PM.

Police are still trying to determine other suspects who may have been involved in the shooting, as they continue to investigate the case.

Video evidence could provide some key evidence in solving the crime. Investigators are asking anyone with videos or photos of the shooting to access an online portal that Waterloo police have set up and submit what they have. To submit digital evidence to police, CLICK HERE.
