We recently discussed the states people move to when they leave Iowa.

Iowa is an interesting state when you look at it as an outsider. It's in the Midwest, which I think we all appreciate.

But it doesn't have the.... sexiness for lack of a better word, that other states have, right?

It May Not Feel Like We've Got It All

We don't have the lakes of Minnesota or Wisconsin.

A massive big city, like Chicago, which Illinois has.

What we do have is affordable living, good jobs, and what I'd fancy to be a pretty high quality of life. It's also really easy to travel from Iowa. We're centrally located after all!

I am a transplant. Yep, my hand is up. I'm a Minnesota boy, born and raised. Initially, I came for work, but met my wife, a native Iowan, and here we are!

What surprises me about the list below is that a few really beautiful states are on the list. Like, for example, Hawaii.

Who moves from Hawaii? I guess Jason Momoa has ties to Iowa and Hawaii, so that's something.

There are also a few obvious suspects on the list. Neighbouring states, which seem obvious for sending residents. I'm from one that made the list.

Why People Move to Iowa

What's the main reason people come to Iowa? Well, we rank high in retirement value. Makes sense, the cost of living is lower. There's school, family, jobs, and a slew of other reasons folks move.
