STOP, Kids! Lemonade Stands Are ILLEGAL In Iowa?
Lemonade stands are a great way for kids to learn about business and gives them the opportunity to make some extra cash during summer break. Not only that, but it gets 'em out of the house. Just last weekend I noticed my neighbors three boys outside selling lemonade. But should they have been?
Did you know that here in Iowa, if your kids are running a lemonade stand and they don't have a permit, they are breaking the law. In fact, back in 2011, police in Clarksville shut down several lemonade stands during RAGBRAI and it made the national news.
For whatever reason, only US 14 states let you operate a lemonade stand without a permit. While garage sales are Kosher without one, lemonade stands technically aren't.
Popular lemonade maker, Country Time Lemonade, has started a movement to make lemonade stands legal nationwide. Hopefully, if enough attention is given to this farce of a law, it will be repealed. You can learn more by visiting their website.
Making it legal for kids to have a lemonade stand... I'd Raise a cheap, .25 cent paper cup to that!
