It’s Snow Joke! Cedar Falls Wants Your Best Snowplow Names

Cedar Falls is hopping on a fun, winter trend that has been blowing up all across the country.

Every year or so, we hear news about states across the Midwest partaking in a fun naming contest for their snowplows. The Minnesota Department of Transportation holds a name the snowplow contest every single year.

It is such a creative and fun way to get the community involved.

Now, Cedar Falls is having their own snowplow naming contest!

The City of Cedar Falls wants the public's help with naming twenty-three of their snowplows.

Nine of these vehicles will be dedicated to students at local schools such as; Orchard Hill, Aldrich, Cedar Heights, Hansen, North Cedar, Lincoln, and Southdale as well as PK-6 grade students from St. Patrick Catholic School and Valley Lutheran.

The rest of the snowplows are up for grabs!

If the name you come up with for this contest is selected, then you will receive a pair of day passes to The Falls Aquatic Center for the summer 2025 season.

Cedar Falls Snowplow Name Criteria

The entries into this contest must follow the following rules:

• Names must be appropriate and under 15 characters
• Entries with profanity or inappropriate language will be excluded
• The first submission of a duplicate name will be considered
• Groups can submit, but must include a contact name
• Only entries through the official contest form are eligible; social media comments are not accepted

The names of these snowplows will be announced on December 9th on the city of Cedar Falls website and Facebook page.

All of the winners will be invited to an open house at the Cedar Falls Public Works Complex to snap a picture with their snowplow.
