Riverfront Stadium to Host NJCAA Region XI Tournament

The Waterloo Bucks have announced that Riverfront Stadium will play host to the 2015 NJCAA Region XI Division II Baseball Tournament May 7-11, 2015.

It marks the fifth year in-a-row that the tournament has been played in Waterloo. Eight teams from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference will play in the five-day, 15-game event.

The opening game of the tournament is set to begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 7, followed by three more games that day. Four games are scheduled to be played on both Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, while two games are set to be played on Sunday, May 10. The tournament championship will be played at 7:00 pm on Sunday, or at 12:00 pm on Monday, May 11, if a double-elimination game is required.

Ticket pricing is as follows: $7 for adults; $4 for students. Fans can go to the ICCAC website (web) to visit the official tournament page (web), which will have the tournament bracket as well as live coverage of all of the games.

“The Bucks are very excited to bring this tournament back to Riverfront Stadium,” said Bucks General Manager Dan Corbin. “We hope to make this a great experience for fans and student-athletes and are privileged to have hosted this event every year since 2011. The ICCAC has been tremendous to work with and we’re eager to showcase this brand of baseball along with our stadium improvements to each school’s fan base and residents of the Cedar Valley.”

The Bucks have ties to many of the ICCAC team’s coaching staffs. Former Bucks infielder Jake Astor (2010) is currently an Assistant Coach at Des Moines Area Community College. Former Bucks manager Jason Nell (2010-11) is the Head Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College. Former Bucks infielder Todd Rima (1995) is the Head Coach at Kirkwood Community College. And former Bucks manager Pete Lauritson (2008-09) is an Assistant Coach at North Iowa Area Community College.

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) was founded in 1996, and is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). They are the governing body of 14 member schools in Iowa and 22 men's and women's sports held in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The ICCAC has been committed to the enhancement of their young adults’ educational experience, as well as the development of quality relationships between their schools and the communities of Iowa.

The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28.
