Last Friday, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds set the state into a frenzy with her decision to lift coronavirus restrictions, including the use of masks, social distancing and limitations on social gatherings. It's of many people's opinion that it was too soon to lift Covid restrictions. The state's biggest cities, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Ames are ignoring her proclamation and keeping their own measures in place. Waterloo currently has a mask mandate in place indefinitely and Cedar Falls' mask mandate is still in force until March 3rd.

Other organization are also using the common sense approach, for instance, the Waterloo schools are sticking with their mask mandate. Our sister station, KHAK listed some of the Cedar Rapids restaurants that are also continuing Covid protocols. *Keep scrolling down to see what local businesses/restaurants are saying on social media*

Locally, many businesses are posting messages on Facebook to clear up any confusion. For instance, the Grout Museum District still requires masks, stating: "The health and safety of our visitors and staff are always our top priority."  SingleSpeed Brewing Co. says, "at this time our plan forward is to stay the course". Nothing will change at Young Arena as well, as the Waterloo Black Hawks "emphasize that face coverings will still be required under the parameters of the City of Waterloo’s continuing mask mandate."

Rocket's Bakery made a good point stating: "Remember that even though the state mandates have been lifted, private businesses reserve the right to implement their own restrictions and can refuse business if deemed necessary."  Finally, The Brass Tap made the best point saying: "We ask that regardless of your personal opinion, we continue to do what is in the best interest of everyone's safety and (ask you to) adhere to our mask policy while visiting us. We will beat Covid and return to "normal" sooner than you think, it just takes us working together as a community."
