How Technology Is Changing the Way We Pay for Things

I'm someone who forgets or loses my debit and credit cards a WHOLE lot.

It's so embarrassing when you get to the cashier at a grocery store or a server brings you a bill and you suddenly realize you don't have any physical cash or cards on you.

The only thing that has saved my butt in these situations is Apple Pay. I just tap my phone and DING it's paid for.

All of this is to say that I really hate paying for anything in cash.

The next time you go to Walmart here in Iowa and try to make a big purchase, you might notice a bit of a change at checkout.

Klarna and OnePay Partner to Offer Installment Payments at Iowa Walmarts

According to a report from Blavity, the financial technology company Klarna is partnering with OnePay to replace its major rival, Affirm, at Walmart locations across the country.

What Is OnePay and How It Works for Walmart Customers

OnePay and Affirm are both companies that allow users to buy now and pay later over a series of installments.

Let's say you really want the Nintendo Switch, but you don't exactly have the means to pay for it all right now. You use these apps, and you can pay off the video game console over a period of time.

Klarna and OnePay’s Exclusive Deal Benefits Walmart Shoppers

Klarna will partner up with OnePay to exclusively offer installment loans to pay for purchases both online and in store.

“Millions of people in the U.S. shop at Walmart every day — and now they can shop smarter with OnePay installment loans powered by Klarna," said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Co-founder and CEO of Klarna.

"OnePay choosing Klarna as their exclusive installment loans partner at Walmart in the U.S. is a huge vote of confidence as we pursue our goal of being available everywhere for everything. We look forward to helping redefine checkout at the world’s largest retailer — both online and in stores.”

What You Can Buy with OnePay and Klarna at Walmart

Walmart customers in the United States will be able to use OnePay to purchase, "thousands of items, including electronics, home and garden, automotive, and more."

Flexible Payment Options Available with OnePay at Walmart

When a specific order goes through on OnePay customers will then choose the type of repayment plan that works best for them. These range from three to thirty-six month payment plans.
