Winnebago To Shut Down Two Northeast Iowa Plants
Over 100 Iowa workers will lose their jobs later this year as two Iowa facilities plan to close.
CBS2 reports that Winnebago Industries will implement the layoffs at two Iowa plants later this year. The move will put 121 employees out of work. The announcement was filed with the Iowa Workforce Development's WARN site. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers with more than 100 employees to notify workers and unions at least 60 days before the loss of jobs, according to CBS2.
The Des Moines Register reports that the RV maker will lay off 77 employees at its Waverly Production facility and 18 at the Charles City campus, effective September 8th. The remaining 26 Charles City workers will be laid off by December 22nd. The Register reports that Winnebago laid off 196 employees back in June at plants in Forest City and Lake Mills, in addition to Charles City and Waverly. 33 workers were let go in July 2024.
Winnebago was founded in Iowa, but is now based in Minneapolis. The Register reports that the company has not given a reason for the latest round of layoffs.
