One of the amazing things about the Hawkeye State, is that it is usually a pretty safe place. According to multiple lists, Iowa is in the top ten in the country for state safety. A website that specializes in moving claims that Iowa is the sixth safest place in the nation.

The state's violent crime rate is 2.50 per 1,000 residents. In addition, there is a 1 in 400 chance that you could be a victim of a violent crime.

So, it seems like a pretty safe place to live in general, right?

Another website called TravelSafe claims that Iowa's ranking is actually HIGHER. It says that Iowa actually is in third place for state safety.

Now, when you are one of the safest cities in one of the safest states then you know that you'll be...safe.

Obvious I know, but bear with me!

TravelSafe put together a list of the safest places to live in Iowa. This study was based off of violent crime rate scores versus population.

Officially coming in at number one is Polk City!

Polk City had a violent crime score of .20 per 1,000 people. According to the study, this city has a population of just over 5,000 people. Located in Polk County, this city is a part of the Des Moines Metro Area.

Almost tying for first place is Prairie City. Prairie City has half of the population numbers that Polk has. Some might consider this place safer since there are only about 1,700 residents here.

They do have a slightly higher violent crime rate, coming in at .58 per 1,000 people.

If you're from either of those cities, would you happen to agree with this claim?
