The Iowa women's basketball team had a rough go of things in Maryland yesterday, (Feb 21) as they suffered their biggest defeat of the season. They ran into a very hot Maryland team, who's currently ranked 7th in the country, and things started to spiral in the second quarter for the lady Hawkeyes.

After taking a 1-point lead going into the second quarter, the 6th-ranked Hawkeyes had a moment in the middle of the quarter where they just couldn't get a shot to fall. At the 5:40 mark of the quarter, they had missed their fifth straight field goal attempt and Maryland went on a 22-2 run. Included in that run were three 3's made by Maryland's Brinae Alexander.

As the Hawkeyes were struggling to score, the Maryland Terrapins built an 18-point lead going into the half. The Hawkeyes were only able to muster 8 points total in the second quarter.

As the 7th-ranked team in the country, Maryland is obviously a very good team. They have also picked the perfect time of the year to play some of their best basketball. After losing to Iowa on February 2, the Maryland women have won 5 straight, and 10 of their last 11, according to KCRG.

The Hawkeyes shot only 30% overall for the game and were held to 4 of 20 from 3-point range and suffered a 96-68 loss. The Xfinity Center, home of Maryland Basketball, has proven to be a difficult place for opponents to play as the Terrapins are 11-2 at home this season.

The 28-point loss clinched the regular season Big 10 title for Indiana, who is currently ranked number 2 in the nation. The Hawkeyes gear up for their final game of the regular season on Sunday (Feb 26), as they play host to the now, regular season Big 10 champs, Indiana.

Iowa is the capital of the Midwest! Ok, that's unofficial, but it's my stance. Here's what NON Iowans think of us.
