Iowa State Stumbles In AP Basketball Poll; UNI, Iowa Just Outside Top 25
Iowa State took the biggest fall in this week's Associated Press men's basketball poll, while UNI dropped out of the rankings and joined Iowa among the team's receiving votes.
After cracking the top 10 seven days ago, Iowa State dropped from 9th to 17th in this week's survey, which was released today (Monday, January 5, 2015). The Cyclones (10-2) fell eight spots in the rankings following Saturday's 64-60 loss to unranked South Carolina at the Barleys Center in Brooklyn, New York.
UNI finds itself just outside of the rankings and looking to get back in. The Panthers opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 52-49 loss at Evansville last week, but bounced back with a 67-58 victory over Loyola (Chicago) Sunday afternoon. The January 1st road loss cost the Panthers (12-2, 1-1) a spot in this week's poll. They are now the top team under consideration and would be ranked 26th if the poll extended that far.
Behind UNI, Iowa (10-4, 1-0) is next in line among the teams receiving votes. The Hawkeyes upset 20th-ranked Ohio State, 71-65, on Tuesday and would be ranked 27th this week.
The top 25 teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Jan. 4, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and last week's ranking:
