Walmart is cracking down and there will be some Iowa shoppers who won't be thrilled the next time they visit the supercenter. This might not affect every person who shops at Walmart but those who like saving a little bit of money might be in for a pretty rude awakening at the checkout lines. This is the first time Walmart has adjusted the policy, when it comes to those who use these, in 6 years.

The changes are pretty significant and I can only imagine the interactions Walmart employees are going to have in the upcoming months until shoppers are aware of and understand these new policies. The worst part is everything is so expensive right now due to inflation, now shoppers will have to adjust how they use their coupons to save a little bit of money.

Walmart has made some adjustments to its coupon policy for the first time since 2017.

Walmart Is Cracking Down On Shoppers Using Coupons

For the entirety of Walmart's coupon policies, you can find all of them at the Corporate Walmart website but I'd like to focus on a select few that you will notice right away if you're a coupon user.

According to the updated policy

  • Walmart will no longer give cash back and any overage will not apply to the remaining items if the value of the coupon is greater than the item's value
  • Walmart will no longer accept digital coupons aka coupons from your phone
  • Walmart will now only allow one paper coupon per item for instore purchases
  • Under no circumstance will shoppers be able to use expired coupons
  • Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day.
  • Shoppers can no longer stack coupons for a single item
  • The coupon description must match the item for the coupon to be used

The granddaddy of all these changes involves Walmart managers, who I'm beginning to feel bad for the more I learn about these changes. When they have to tell someone they won't accept their coupon...I can only imagine how well shoppers take the news. YIKES!

Overriding Coupons

Walmart managers had the option to override the scanners/software if they did not accept your coupon. Walmart managers could allow you to use your coupon if they wanted. Now, there will be no overrides. The update to Walmart's software has removed the ability to override the system. If the scanner does not accept your coupon, you might as well throw it in the garbage.

According to Corporate Walmart

To help our customers save money and live better, we gladly accept valid paper manufacturer coupons issued by manufacturers of products that Walmart sells. These paper manufacturer coupons must be scanned at the register and must not be expired in accordance with the following guidelines.
