The abrupt end to the 2019/20 USHL hockey season has left everyone wondering..."what might have been"?

A little over a month ago, the Waterloo Black Hawks were riding high. Sitting in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 33-14-2 and 68 points...8 points more than second place Fargo with 60 points. Then the coronavirus outbreak hit...leaving hockey fans with the ultimate cliffhanger: "how would have the Black Hawks season finished?"

In an effort to provide a little fun and something for fans to do while they're at home. The Black Hawks are inviting fans to participate in their "Waterloo Black Hawks Fan Fiction Contest". Here's your chance to use your imagination and tell them what would have happened during this weekend’s home-and-home regular season finale series against the Des Moines Buccaneers.

Here's some ideas to get you started...Would have the Black Hawks won big? Would a desperate Buccaneers team have surprised Waterloo in a last ditch effort to qualify for the playoffs? Would the games have gone to overtime? Who would have scored the big goal or made the big save?

A team press release quoted Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene saying: “Since fans can’t come to the rink in person this weekend, we hope they will join us in spirit, and tell us how they think this year would have finished.” “We hope people will have some fun with this, and if there is enough interest, maybe we’ll follow up next week with a playoff edition.”

The best 100-to-400-word game (or weekend) recap will be shared on waterlooblackhawks.com next Monday, and the winning submission will earn a prize package from the team and Black Hawks sponsors. Entries will only be accepted through the form on the team’s website. Also, see their website for official rules and GOOD LUCK!
