We're really experiencing the dog days of summer here in the Hawkeye State right now.

Iowa winters might be brutal, but Iowa summers are something else entirely.

A good chunk of the state experienced absolutely suffocating weather over the past week. Temperatures were in the high 90s in parts of the state.

In Eastern Iowa, the first weekend in August proved to be an incredibly warm and muggy one, according to our weather partners at KCRG.

Luckily, we'll be getting a bit of a break from the heat this week (August 5th through August 10th).

Our weather partners at KCRG are forecasting that there will be a change in air mass on August 6th. This will bring with it "notably cooler and drier air flowing into the state."

Temps in our listening area will be significantly cooler this week and into the weekend. Some storms and showers are possible on Wednesday and Thursday.

This heatwave that we're finally getting a relief from, had me thinking about what city or town in Iowa got hit with it the worst.

And no...we're not talking about the attractiveness of the population.

A website called Filter Buy put together a list of the hottest cities in every single state in the country.

The hottest city is...Burlington

According to the website Filter Buy, Iowa's hottest city is also the home of one of the crookedest roads in the world. This city is home to approximately 20,000 residents who are sweating like a sinner in church every summer.

On average, every summer the city sees approximately twenty-five days where the temperature is above 90 degrees. Burlington also sees a 100 degree+ day once a year.

The typical maximum summer temperature in the city is 85.2 degrees.
