If you are a fan of haunted attractions during spooky season like me, why not check out one for a good cause?

The "Haunted Barn" in Ladora, Iowa is a volunteer based barn opened every Friday and Saturday in October from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. However, this isn't just your ordinary haunted house where you pay to get scared... I mean you do do this but your money is going towards a good cause every weekend!

According to KWWL, every weekend the "Haunted Barn" is open is a way to fundraise for a charity. They are helping to give back to their community, especially veterans. Many veterans and their families participate in the attraction to help fundraise for the charity of LZ Phoenix which is the only homeless shelter only for veterans in Iowa. This helps veterans find resources for themselves and their families to get back on their feet. The LZ Phoenix fundraiser scare night is Saturday, October 3rd. The other big charity they are doing for their opening weekend is Friday, October 2nd for R.E.A which is a non-profit that provides services to adults with disabilities in Iowa County.

As the season continues, the proceeds are spread between scholarships and other charities/organizations in the area. If you are worried about social distancing this year, according to "Haunted Barn" Facebook page, masks are encouraged but not required, their new location has plenty of space for social distancing, hand sanitizer will be available and groups will be sent in with the people they came with.

Let's turn spooky season into scaring for caring. What a better reason to get scared?!
