A “Great American State Fair” in Iowa? Rumors Swirl Ahead of 2025

While I didn't know much about Iowa when I moved here a few years ago, I did know at least one important thing.

Iowa has one of the biggest and best state fairs in the entire country.

There are rumors that another huge fair might be going on at the fairgrounds in Des Moines. This one would possibly draw people in from all across the country.

America's 250th Anniversary Celebration

Donald Trump was recently elected to be the 47th President of the United States of America. As the Biden administration wraps up its time in the White House, the next commander-in-chief is preparing to deliver on some campaign promises he made on the trail.

Last year, Trump shared information with Americans regarding the celebration of the Semiquincentennial. The Semiquincentennial will be the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Currently, a nonpartisan initiative called America250 is working to get Americans engaged and excited about this major anniversary.

Great American State Fair

During the summer of 2023, Trump sent an email to his supporters describing a huge celebration of this momentous occasion in American history, calling it the great American State Fair. 

It would be a "unique one-year exhibition featuring pavilions from all 50 states." The message goes into further detail on this American State Fair, such as it taking place on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

According to this email that was shared on Twitter/X, this yearlong event would kick off on Memorial Day 2025 and wrap up on July 4th, 2026.

Could this event just have been a fluke? An exciting campaign promise that won't necessarily come to fruition?

I reached out to officials from the Iowa State Fair and America250 to inquire about the event.

Officials from the Iowa State Fair gave the following statement.

"We know the world’s greatest state fair is in Iowa, but no formal request or inquiry has been made for use of the Iowa State Fairgrounds at this time."

No one from America250 has responded to our inquiry.
