Governor Kim Reynolds Told Us She is Staunchly Against Abortion

On the United State's National Day of Prayer on May 5, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds addressed a crowd at the state capital regarding abortion. She said she was hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court is ready to 'undo its fatal mistake, ' according to the Des Moines Register. She added this:

It's clear that the justices are facing tremendous pressure to compromise on the truth. So today, they need our prayers now more than ever, and let's not rest until our morals and our society recognize that all human beings are precious, no matter how small.

That's why many Iowans are nervous following today's decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Per a different article from The Register,

"Republican majorities in Iowa have previously passed legislation to require a three-day waiting period or to prohibit abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, something that can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

Courts blocked those laws, and they did not take effect.

But lawmakers may push for similar — or more restrictive — legislation when they next convene at the Capitol. The regular session is scheduled to begin in January 2023, but Gov. Kim Reynolds has the power to summon lawmakers back earlier if she chooses."

Several Democratic representatives from Iowa responded to the national verdict on Twitter and addressed what it could mean for the Hawkeye State:

As of now, Iowans seeking abortion are protected under the state's constitution and would be able to receive safe abortions.

Who knows how much longer that will last?

As Reynolds has said herself:

The fight for life is not over. As governor, I won’t rest until every unborn Iowan is protected and respected.
