Farmer’s Almanac: Iowans Might Be Running The AC Longer This Fall

Iowans have really battled the heat this summer. The state of Iowa has seen some of its hottest temperatures in recorded history during the past 3 months. Multiple times this summer, parts of Iowa saw 3 or more days in a row with heat indexes above 100 and even stretches above 105. To be fair, the entire Northern Hemisphere dealt with sweltering temperatures.

This past July and August were the two hottest months the Northern Hemisphere has ever dealt with in recorded history, according to Huff Post. What does this mean for Iowa as we approach the beginning of the fall season?

In my opinion, nothing beats Iowa in the fall. It's one of the best times of the year. Not only is football back but the fall colors arrive. The state looks gorgeous as you drive around seeing all of the red, orange, and yellow leaves. It's also nice to shut the AC off at your home and open the windows so you can enjoy the cool fall air.

If the Farmer's Almanac is correct...Iowans might be keeping that AC on a little longer than they'd like too.

According to the Farmers Almanac, Iowa can expect warmer than normal fall temperatures this year. Iowa and a large portion of the central part of the entire country can expect fall temperatures to be unseasonably warm compared to the previous years.

According to Weather Spark, the average temperature in October, in Iowa, is close to 65 degrees. If the Almanac is correct, we will likely experience temperatures closer to 70 degrees this October. 70 is about where we draw the line in my house. Anything above that...we're turning on the AC. If the sun is beating down and there isn't a decent breeze, it's just too warm in my house.

Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons and it doesn't last long enough. It feels like one moment we're enjoying a nice 50-degree, sunny, fall day, and the next, it's 25 degrees out and we need to grab our jackets as we prepare to shovel our driveway for the first time. I don't like to cheer for anyone's downfall but I'm really hoping the Farmer's Almanac has their predictions wrong for this fall season.

I might be in the minority on this one but I'm hoping we see a lot more fall days in the 50s than we do in the 70s. 70 degrees is way too warm to bust out my collection of flannels.
