It looks like Iowans will soon be able to order their favorite spirits through third-party delivery apps like GrubHub, EatStreet, and DoorDash.
As reported by RadioIowa, some major moves in the Iowa legislature is putting the possibility of getting your booze delivered at the touch of a button on the fast path.
This Bill just passed through the Iowa House, and the next step is approval in the Senate for it to become a law. Currently, the law on the books is that alcohol can only be delivered by those employed by the specific retailer, and this person MUST be driving a vehicle owned by the vendor when delivering.
In the legislation, restaurants would have to have a written agreement with third-party services. With these agreements, certain information of the businesses as well as the delivery service will have to be listed, and then be sent to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
In the early stages of the pandemic, Governor Kim Reynolds actually permitted certain establishments to sell to-go cocktails. Then in June of 2020, Iowa legislatures passed a law making cocktails to-go legal to sell statewide.
