
Is Iowa One of the Most ‘Sober Curious’ States?
If you listen to any of our radio stations, you've likely heard the public service announcement the State of Iowa put out about cutting back on drinking.
It's true Iowans love to drink, with stats showing we have a higher binge drinking level than the national average.

Alcohol-related cancers are also very high in Iowa - in fact, we have the highest rate in the Midwest.

With that sobering (pun intended) factoid in mind, it may surprise you that as we head into the drinking holiday season with Fat Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day, and Cinco De Mayo here or around the corner, Iowans are actually becoming more sober curious.
Iowans Are Sober Curious - Here's What That Means
What exactly is 'sober curious' you ask? It's a way for someone to evaluate their relationship with alcohol.
And according to My Rx Outlet, it is something roughly 48.8% of Iowans are doing. That makes us the 17th most sober curious state in the U.S.
Going from enjoying a drink or two to cutting it out completely isn't necessarily what someone who is sober and curious plans to do, but it does mean they're at least interested in cutting back.
The same study found the average drinking Iowan could save $85.73 a month if they cut back.That;s over $1020 annually.
Do you have plans to cut back or even cut out alcohol? While the cost savings are nice, the health benefits are certainly reason enough for many Iowans to, at least, cut back.
