Get Ready, Iowa – Here’s When Daylight Saving Time Ends in 2025
Summer is a special season for Iowans and Midwesterners. It always feels fleeting. Even mild winters can feel long because the days are so short.
Sadly, those days will be coming to an end before you know it.
The Iowa State Fair is upon us, kids will be back in school, and the mighty "PSL" will be here August 26.
Iowa, like almost all U.S. states, participates in Daylight Saving Time. But when do we "fall back" in 2025?
When Does Daylight Saving Time End?
In Iowa and the U.S., we'll be falling back before you know it.

Daylight Saving Time will end in the wee hours of Sunday, Nov 2, 2025. We'll gain back the hour we lost when we sprang forward on March 9.

As a result, it will get darker earlier and earlier until around Christmas time.
Is Daylight Saving Time Going Away?
DST is not going anywhere... at least not yet. It does feel like the debate has been going on forever.
But no resolution has been reached, and so the clocks will keep changing twice a year.
What is Daylight Saving Time?
Daylight saving time runs from March to November, when most Americans move their clocks ahead by one hour.
In March, we "spring forward" to enjoy more daylight in the evenings.
Then in November, we "fall back" and set the clocks back an hour, giving us a little more light in the morning as winter approaches.
Despite objections from many Americans, there are advantages to Daylight Saving Time and, in this case, rolling back an hour:
Wake up more easily
Reduce early morning accidents
Make commutes safer for drivers and kids at bus stops
Feel more rested
Catch up on sleep debt
Transition more smoothly than the spring shift
The earlier sunrise in the morning is also helpful:
Kids to wake up and get ready for school
Parents to stay on top of morning schedules
Love it or hate it, Daylight Saving Time in Iowa will end on Sunday, November 2, technically at 2 am, when we roll back the clock one hour.
