The Wartburg Knights will host the Trine Thunder during the second round of the 2017 NCAA D3 Football Playoffs.

The No 15/18 Wartburg football team (11-0 overall) won a thrilling overtime first round game against Franklin (8-3). The Knights will now face No. 22/25 Trine (11-0) this Saturday (Nov 25) at noon at Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly.

Wartburg's ground game is led by Sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.). He's tallied 1,211 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is the 17th player in program history to achieve the 1,000 season rushing mark and first since Brandon Domeyer in 2014.

Knights' Junior quarterback Matt Sacia (Eldridge) has thrown for 2,722 yards and 30 touchdowns on the season. He has now tied the single-season record in TD passes that was set in 2014 by Logan Schrader.

Trine won the Michigan Athletic Association Conference (MIAA) Championship to earn its trip to the NCAA Playoffs. They defeated Monmouth 63-24 in the first round to advance in the bracket. This marks Trine's fourth appearance in the NCAA Playoffs.

The Thunder have a powerful running tandem with running backs. Lamar Carswell and Wyse co-lead the team on the ground with 1,475 and 1,096 rushing yards, respectively.
