Bucks Off To Best Start In Five Seasons

Six games into their pandemic-delayed Northwoods League season, the Waterloo Bucks are off to their best start in five years.

The locals returned to Riverfront Stadium Monday night to begin a two-game home stand against St. Cloud. The Bucks got off to a slow start, but rallied for a 5-1 victory over the Rox.

St. Cloud (2-2) scored its only run in the first inning, building an early 1-0 lead after Waterloo committed an error. The Bucks also had two chances to turn double plays in the frame, but they failed to convert on both.

Waterloo took control of the game in the second, an inning that Peyton Williams began with a walk. Jalen Smith then blasted a two-run home run over the left-center field wall, putting the Bucks ahead 2-1.

The home team added a two insurance runs in the third inning and scored one more time in the sixth. Oraj Anu (Kentucky) led Waterloo's offense, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Bucks improved their record to 5-1 with Monday night's win, which kept them at the top of the Minnesota-Iowa pod standings. The six-game start is the best for Waterloo since opening the 2015 season with seven-straight victories.

The Bucks complete their two-game series against St. Cloud on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled at 6:35 PM at Riverfront Stadium.
