It's been fun watching our "boys of summer" over the past couple of months at Riverfront Stadium. The Bucks are on a roll and we'll see if they can keep that momentum going tonight in St. Cloud.

As the state of Iowa goes through a severe drought, the Waterloo Bucks ended their own drought, earning their first Northwoods League (NWL) play-off victory in 19 years. The Bucks defeated Duluth in the playoff opener game with an exciting 8-6 victory on Sunday afternoon.

It's a sweep! The Waterloo Bucks swept the Duluth Huskies in the series

On Monday night, in game two of the best-of-three series, on the strength of Duncan Davitts's outstanding pitching performance, along with some timely hitting and great defense, the Bucks won the 2021 Great Plains-East Championship with a 6-0 shutout of the Huskies, sweeping the Subdivisional Series. According to the NWL website, The University of Iowa pitcher, fired a collegiate career-best 7.1 scoreless innings, to earn his fifth win of the summer.

Waterloo travels to St. Cloud to take on the Rox tonight

The Bucks now play in the Great Plains Championship Game against the St. Cloud Rox tonight (Tuesday, August 17)  with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Bucks fans can follow along to the game on the Bucks Radio Network and NWLTV.

As the NWL website explains, "this appearance marks Waterloo’s first trip to the Great Plains Championship Game in the current postseason format’s history. Wartburg lefthander Dylan Gotto is scheduled to start, making his third start on the bump this summer."
