Cedar Valley Honor Flight Postponed-May Flight Rescheduled

Despite some optimism for the new year, the coronavirus is still causing postponements and cancellations. To make matters worse, Iowa has the 3rd lowest vaccination rate in the nation. The slow roll-out of the vaccine in our state is just one of several reasons that forced organizers of a planned May Honor Flight out of Waterloo to postpone the trip until later this year.

According to a press release: The Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Cedar Valley Honor Flight organizers have announced that the National Flight board has determined to suspend all Honor Flight related travel through June 30, 2021. As mentioned, the status of the vaccine rollout and timing between first and second doses of the current vaccines, as well as considerations regarding availability of vaccine to younger population/guardians/volunteers in the first reason for the date being pushed back. Also group gathering restrictions in the D.C. area continue to be in force, with no established end date at this time. Plus, the National Park Service is not currently issuing group gathering permits and there is no indication when the NPS will resume permitting for group gatherings.

The Cedar Valley Honor Flight had scheduled an Honor Flight out of Waterloo for May 19th, this is now rescheduled for September 22, 2021. Veterans who signed up for the May 19th flight will move to the September date. Applications for future flights are still being accepted and are available at local Hy-Vee customer service desks.
