There's news today that the state of Illinois is banning all graduation ceremonies. That's rough news for high school seniors in our neighboring state.

Trying to make the best out of a bad situation, Cedar Falls High School has come up with a plan to celebrate the Class of 2020. The plan involves graduates wearing a cap and gown, hear their named called and getting to walk across the stage, receive their diploma, and get their picture taken. All while having their family in the audience. Only one family will be allowed in the auditorium and social distancing will be practiced. The entire process will be recorded and then played back on the original commencement day, May 24th, on CFU cable channel 15. Then they will coordinate all the seniors turning their tassels and throwing their caps in unison. Finally, everyone will be asked to share their celebration with videos on social media.

They did emphasize on their Facebook message that "they'll need a commitment from all graduates and their families to pull this off". And that "the safety of all members of the school and community will be a priority". All families will receive emails outlining the process or the details are on the high school's Facebook page.

This idea was met with some mixed reviews in the comments section of their post, but they were mostly positive. The Class of 2020 will certainly never forget the year they graduated. Sometimes, you just have to deal with the hand that is dealt to you.
