Carson King Brews “Midwest Legend” Beer
Glenn Cole from Midwest Ale Works was at Twin Span Brewing in Bettendorf with head brewer Adam Ross brewing Midwest Legend beer with Iowa Legend Carson King!
Carson, of course, came to the national stage as the guy at the ISU game holding a sign with his Venmo address asking for beer money. He then went on to raise over $3Million dollars for the University of Iowa's Children's Hospital.
The Carson King Foundation has continued to raise money for great causes including recently raising $40,000 to support mental health services. Now, he's got his sights set on helping farmers & small businesses who were effected by this summers derecho wind storm. They've already raise $60,000 through t-shirt sales.
Brewers across the country are encouraged to make their version of "Midwest Legend" beer. For instance, MAW's version is a blonde ale "a pale yellow colored light flavored beer is the most approachable style for people new to craft beer." Twin Span Brewing in Bettendorf's version is a saison brewed with malt and hops from local Iowa farmers
$1 of every sale will go to storm relief. MAW has offered labels and their recipe and suppliers have offered to give discounts to breweries who would like to take part in this effort. Carson says his favorite part so far is seeing how the brewing community works together. He even goes so far as to say as the MAW version "rivals Busch Light" and "might be a little better".
