Angel and Caitlin have both had fantastic first seasons in the league.

One of these players unfortunately won't be able to finish the season out on the court like she planned.

Reese's Rookie Season Cut Short

On Friday September 6th, Angel Reese played her last game with the Chicago Sky for this season. The team took on the Los Angeles Sparks in CHI town and got the win with a final score of 78 to 92.

While they may have won the game, they lost a key player.

"What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2," the CHI town Barbie said on Instagram.

Reese sustained a wrist injury against the Sparks.

The Sky Forward shared more details about this with her followers on social media.

“I fell on my hand when I got the and-one, when I fell back (and) fell on my hand and it is a small crack in my bone."

Her doctors told her that if she did not get surgery on her wrist, she could end up with some form of arthritis. This injury has her out for the rest of the season.

She will be in a hard cast for four weeks and then a soft cast for two additional weeks. By the time she's healed up, the final round of the WNBA playoffs will most likely be underway or completed.

Reese is slated to be a part of the inaugural season of the 3x3 Unrivaled women's basketball league. These games will start up in January, so if her recovery goes according to plan, she'll still be able to play.

Of course, Clark was asked about Reese's season being cut short in a post-game interview.

The former Iowa Hawkeye turned Indiana Fever star rookie had nothing but kind things to say about her fellow rookie.

“It’s definitely sad whenever you see anyone go down with an injury, especially people that you came into this league with,” the West Des Moines native said.

“You want to see her finish out this year. Obviously, she’s had a historic year, and she’s done some incredible things."

The last game of the regular season is scheduled for September 19th, 2024. Clark will actually be playing in the playoffs this year. The Indiana Fever broke through after the Olympic break to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

This is the first time that the Fever have been a part of the post-season games since 2016.

The top eight teams in the league will be vying for the coveted WNBA championship title.

Seven of the teams in the league have already secured a playoff spot, with another spot up for grabs.

Here are the seven teams headed for post season play:

  1. New York Liberty
  2. Minnesota Lynx
  3. Connecticut Sun
  4. Las Vegas Aces
  5. Seattle Storm
  6. Indiana Fever
  7. Phoenix Mercury
