The Dupaco Cowbell Cup Rivalry got rolling this weekend when Waterloo edged Dubuque on Friday night and lost to Cedar Rapids on Saturday night. The Hawks are in 1st place own a record of 9-3-1 and hold a point lead over the Lincoln Stars.

FRIDAY NIGHT VS DUBUQUE
A penalty shot conversion with 1:18 remaining in regulation Friday gave Waterloo their only lead during a 3-2 road win at Mystique Ice Center against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Dane Montgomery was tripped on a short-handed breakaway, leading to the attempt.  Since Montgomery was shaken up on the play, Wyatt Schingoethe took his place for the penalty shot attempt.  Moving to the net by way of the right circle, Schingoethe pulled the puck to his back-hand at the last moment and beat Eric Portillo to the short side. Waterloo ran out the remaining Dubuque power play time to secure the win and finish the night three-for-three on the penalty kill.

SATURDAY NIGHT VS CEDAR RAPIDS
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders scored four goals on 18 shots to top the Black Hawks 4-1 at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Saturday. Waterloo had a 26-18 edge in chances, but Derek Mullahy stopped all but one Waterloo attempt for the win.

FINALLY BACK IN PARTYTOWN THIS WEEKEND
With the season’s longest road sequence at an end, the Black Hawks now prepare for five-in-a-row on home ice. The first two of those games are next Friday and Saturday against the Omaha Lancers during Waterloo’s "Hockey Fights Cancer" Weekend. On both nights, the Hawks will wear special jerseys, to be auctioned after Saturday’s match-up, with profits benefiting the "Beyond Pink TEAM".
