Last weekend, Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O’Handley set a new record for career coaching victories in the United States Hockey League. On Saturday night (February 1, 2014), the Black Hawks thumped the Sioux City Musketeers, 7-0, and they put to more records into the spotlight.

The Saturday night win broke a 28-year old USHL record. The Black Hawks have won 21 consecutive games without losing in regulation (20-0-1). The previous best was held by the Rochester Mustangs in 1985-86 and again in 1986-1987. The team's last loss was back on November 22 when Team USA handed Waterloo an 8-6 loss.

The Waterloo Black Hawks gave an exceptional offensive performance Saturday, but it was goaltender Cal Petersen’s night as he claimed a record victory in style, 7-0 over the Sioux City Musketeers at Young Arena.

The win was Petersen’s 47th in regular season play, matching Matt DiGirolamo for the franchise’s highest career total during the Hawks’ junior era. Currently the Waterloo native leads the league in victories with 23 in 2013-2014, the Waterloo native made 34 saves Saturday. It was Petersen’s second shutout of the year and his fifth as a Black Hawks netminder.

Petersen earned the game's number one star stopping all 34 Musketeers shots. Peter Krieger was awarded the second star on the night. Krieger scored two goals for the second consecutive night. Jake Horton's power play goal in the first started the scoring parade, and it earned him the game's third start.
