The Waterloo Black Hawks matched a junior era franchise record with their 12th consecutive victory Friday, topping the Fargo Force 3-1 at Scheels Arena in North Dakota.

Defensemen were responsible for all of the offense in the opening period.  At 6:58, the rebound of a Drew Melanson shot bounced back to Alec McCrea, who sent a low chance into the net from just above the right hashmark.  Then at 18:13 of the period, Brandon Montour’s shot from inside the right wing circle was blocked back to him.  Montour extended his point streak to 12 consecutive games, releasing a quick wrister and fluttering the puck over Mathias Israelsson’s left shoulder.  In between, Cal Petersen turned away a one-on-one chance against Mikey Eyssimont at the midpoint of the first for his best save of the night.

Power play scoring was the story in the second.  Tim Lappin extended the lead by banging in a rebound from the top of the crease at 12:08.  Not quite four-and-a-half minutes later, the Force scored in similar fashion, with a second-chance, special teams goal by J.M. Piotrowski.

Neither team could score in the third, but Waterloo continued to send opportunities toward the net, firing 15 pucks at Israelsson during the final 20 minutes.  For the game, the Hawks outshot Fargo 52-20.  Petersen claimed the win with 19 stops.

The Hawks and Force meet for a rematch on Saturday.  The 7:05 contest will conclude Waterloo’s four-game road trip before the team comes home to Young Arena next Friday to face the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
