Black Hawk County Board of Health Approves Mask Mandate
Currently the largest city in Black Hawk County, Waterloo, has a mask mandate in place. However, no other city within the county does. That may change soon. This morning (Wednesday), the Black Hawk County Board of Health made the decision unanimously to adopt a mask mandate. The request to mandate masks in the county will now go before the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors. They will have the final say on the matter.
Should the mandate pass as it's written, those who live or visit the county would be required to wear a mask when:
- In a public space
- Whenever it's not possible to stay six feet away from others
- Inside of any indoor public settings like a grocery or retail store, schools or other public settings that are not ones place of residence and when you are with persons who do not live in the household.
- Outside, if keeping six feet away from others is not possible
- When using public transportation - including taxis, ride share, or carpooling.

While Johnson County currently has a mask mandate in place, according to a report in the Currier, they were designated as a 'Red Zone' by a White House Task Force. That is the highest risk zone. Black Hawk was designated as a 'Yellow Zone', which is one below in severity.
