Adam Devine from 'Pitch Perfect' is from Waterloo?
I'm constantly amazed by the number of celebrities to come from Iowa. Johnny Carson, Ashton Kutcher, FRODO BAGGINS?!? Yeah, they all call the Hawkeye State home. However, when I was scrolling through Tik Tok early one morning I learned that one celebrity who played an integral role in my childhood actually is from Waterloo.
I know...crazy, right?
How I found out...
One of the first things I do when I wake up is scroll through Tik Tok. Ever since I've moved to Iowa the videos that have been popping up in my feed are incredibly Iowa-based. I get the strangest (and coolest) videos now.
I came across the video below. In the video, this person reveals some celebrities that are from Iowa. A few of the usual suspects are included; Ashton Kutcher, John Wayne, and Johnny Carson a just a few of them.
@b_stillyAre you surprised by any ? #iowa #iowacheck #iowalife #iowagang #iowachill #iowacity♬ Fast - Sueco the Child
In the middle of watching it, I tapped the screen to pause the video. And I actually said OUT LOUD...
Is that the dude from the Pitch Perfect movies?
After doing some research I realized...yes that is the guy from the Pitch Perfect movies, Adam DeVine.
I had a huge crush on DeVine when he first broke into Hollywood with the college acapella movie franchise. A man who can sing and make me laugh? Sign teenage me up! The actor spent the first few years of his life in Waterloo, IA and then moved to Omaha when he was around ten years old.
He got his start in showbiz as one of the creators and stars in the Comedy Central show 'Workaholics' but it wasn't until 2012 when he garnered national attention. 'Pitch Perfect' skyrocketed him to a whole new level of fame.
Ever since, he's appeared in several major comedy films with the likes of Zac Efron and Rebel Wilson, and had a brief stint on the hit show 'Modern Family.'
Maybe next he'll make a trip back to Waterloo? I mean...I wouldn't mind if he came back...thirteen year old me on the other hand...
