A Tree Has Been Lit With 80,000 Christmas Lights in Iowa [VIDEO]

Last week we discovered that Iowa might be lacking a bit when it comes to Christmas decorations around the state. Well, there's a town in north central Iowa that said screw that study, check out what we did with this tree! I had never seen what 80,000 Christmas lights looked like on one single tree until I stopped by to see this tree and it's a pretty incredible experience. Is it likely that this is the biggest collection of Christmas lights on one single tree in the entire state?

Have you ever heard of Iowa's very own POET tree? This is easily one of the most impressive trees in the state of Iowa.

The POET Tree is located in Hanlontown, Iowa!

If you're unfamiliar with Hanlontown, it's located right before you reach the Iowa/Minnesota border, if you're traveling north on 35.

According to Iowa Road Trip, the tree was created and maintained by the employees of the Bioprocessing plant, which is just north of where the tree is located. These employees donate their time and efforts to maintain the tree and string up the thousands of lights. It's a simple way for the employees to show off their Christmas spirit.

The tree has been strung with lights since the early 2010s and in those earlier years, there were around 14,000 lights used. Each year, the tree has had more lights added. The tree's exact location is at the intersection of Highway 9 and Fir Avenue.

My wife and I have actually see this tree in person and as I'm sure you can guess, it's sticks out like a sore thumb, in a good way! It's such a unique tree that's basically in the middle of an open field. There aren't any decorations on it and the lights really get their chance to shine...pun intended. It's such a simple idea, which in my opinion, makes the entire tree that much more powerful.

Iowa Road Trip says the tree will only be lit until early January, before they take the lights down. If you need a Christmas boost or want something fun to do with the family, take a trip to Hanlontown and visit this amazing tree!
