The owners of a new Mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids promise to bring fresh ingredients and unique flavors to the area later this month!
Signs have officially gone up for La Chamba Mexican Restaurant, a new eatery located at 5001 1st Ave NE in the same strip of buildings as Fieldhouse 1st Ave. I spoke to Liz, one of the owners of the restaurant, who told me that La Chamba will set itself apart from other Mexican restaurants in town in a few different ways. She wrote:
"Everyone thinks ALL MEXICAN FOOD IS THE SAME. but it's not. Every state/city has its own flavors and spins on everything, so we're combining them and trying to make it our own."
Liz is from Illinois, her husband Jose is from La Piedad, and her business partners Sarahi and Martin are from Guerrero, so you can expect dishes from those regions, as well as fresh produce and herbs, and chorizo made from scratch. Another way that La Chamba will differ from most Mexican restaurants in the area is that the menu will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some breakfast options include Parfait Crepes, Tres Leches Pancakes, a Breakfast Torta, and Breakfast Chimis with both sweet and savory flavors.
As far as lunch and dinner goes, Liz promises menu items like Chili Relleno Burritos, Birria/Quesabirria Tacos, and Birria Quesadillas. Oh, and don't forget the sweet empanadas and fresh churros for dessert!
The plan is for La Chamba Mexican Restaurant to officially open on February 22nd. Liz says, "we hope you give us the opportunity to try something different and that you like it."
