STORY UPDATE: Name is Released of Woman Who Died in Out-of-Control Field Fire

Authorities have now released the name of a woman who died in a weekend field fire.  She has been identified as 79 year old Carol Woodson of Marion.

Shortly after 3pm Sunday (April 4), the Linn County Sheriff received a 911 call from the 3,000 block of Gillmore Road, southwest of Alburnette, reporting that a field fire was burning out of control.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found a ditch fire that had spread out of control. They also discovered a woman, who was apparently tending the fire, down on the ground, engulfed in flames.

The woman, Carol Woodson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Linn County Sheriff is assisting the State Fire Marshall's Office in the investigation.
