Wendling & Cordes Visit Independence Victory Lane
Mother Nature tried her best to spoil the night, but 126 race cars would not be denied a chance to race at the Independence Motor Speedway on May 30, 2015.
Rick Wendling dominated in the 25-lap caution-free Budweiser IMCA Late Model A-Main. Pole sitter Bobby Hansen lead lap one. While working lap two, Wendling powered by Hansen on the low side of turn two to take the lead, and he never looked back.
“After last night, we change just about everything on this car,” Wendling said from the Budweiser Victory Lane. “We've just flat out struggled the last three weeks. This car was fun to drive tonight. It could run anywhere.”
Tyler Bruenning finished second followed by Tyler Droste, Sean Johnson, and Curt Martin.
Troy Cordes was running fourth with five laps remaining in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified feature, but he would not be denied as he worked his way through traffic to challenge for the lead on the last lap. Cordes was able to work by Tony Snyder for the lead and the win. Snyder settled for second. Ronn Lauritzen started ninth and finished third. Vern Jackson and Brennen Chipp rounded out the top five.
In the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car feature, Chris Luloff passed early race leader Jesse Brown on lap nine. Luloff would hold off the pack for the win. Brown, Jarod Weepie, Tom Schmitt, and Jason Hocken made up the rest of the top five.
Tony Olson started tenth in the Tenacity Graphics IMCA SportMod main event. By lap six, he found himself in the lead and drove off for the win. Kevin Hurst crossed the line in second. Eighteenth place starter Alex Zwanginer finished third.
Benji Irvine made a late race charge to take the win in the Big Daddy Chassis IMCA Hobby Stock feature.
Brody Willett scored the win in the RCZ Enterprises Indee Car A-Main.
