Waterloo Halfway House Escapee Sentenced To Federal Prison

A Waterloo man who escaped a local Halfway House will spend the next two years in a federal prison.

Michael Rohrick received the 24-month sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty to an escape from custody charge on Feb. 1. He was also fined $100.

Under terms of the sentencing, the 35-year-old Rohrick must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

According to court documents, Rohrick signed out of the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility for a work assignment on April 10, 2020, then never returned. He was on the loose for several months.

Rohrick was eventually apprehended after a high-speed chase in Waterloo.
