The doors of a unique Waterloo nightlife location has closed for the time being. However, the owner is hopeful for the future.

"It's no secret that the last few months have been nothing but a challenge," the most recent owner of Kings & Queens John Hayes said in a video statement.

The Cedar Valley's only gay bar has been closed since the start of the new year and is currently on the market. Located at 304 W 4th Street in Waterloo, there have apparently been some problems over the last few months.

Hayes had to take over running the bar far several months after some issues arose from the person he'd contracted to run the establishment, according to a report.

"Somethings don't always work out the way you want," the business owner said.

Kings & Queens has two sister bars; The Broken Record and the Loft, the latter of the two has been closed temporarily and is under new ownership.

"I always say good things can come out of something bad."

As of right now, Hayes does not plan to list the business through a real estate agent. He wants to have some say into who gets to purchase the property next. There is a possibility that the property might be rented out through the current owner as well. Currently there are several interested parties, according to a report from the online publisher The Real Mainstream.

Hayes purchased the bar back in 2011, a decade after it initially opened.

"There is still a need for places like this to be in the community."
