Longtime Cedar Rapids Food Truck Opening Permanent Location [PHOTOS]

They debuted at the NewBo Brews and BBQ festival nearly a decade ago. Since then, it's been a popular destination at events around eastern Iowa, as well as for catering. A permanent Cedar Rapids location is now right around the corner.

Up in Smoke BBQ announced earlier this week that they're doing takeout orders this week while work on the dining room continues. Tim Sines, who is opening the business with his son Adam, tells me they'll continue to do carry-out until the doors are open permanently. He says, for now, they'll be doing each Thursday through Saturday but that will likely be expanding. The photo above is what's on the menu this weekend... Brisket, pulled pork, salmon salad, and cornbread. It all looks delicious.

It was about four months ago that Up in Smoke BBQ announced they were going to become a part of the Czech Village.

Tim Sines says he's been in the barbecue business for ten years and his son started cooking around the nation right after his high school graduation at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. There's plenty of experience for the smoking of the Angus beef they serve, all of it from cattle right here in Iowa. Tim says everything they serve, except for the baked beans, is made from scratch. Even those receive the special Up in Smoke BBQ touch before being served. They make their own sauces and rubs and even brine and smoke their own salmon.

Once the dining room doors open, hopefully early this spring, Tim says it will be "family-friendly diner-style, it's not a bar." Up in Smoke BBQ is in the former Anvil Meat Market and Deli building at 92 16th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids' Czech Village.
