Eastern Iowa Football Player Dies in Tragic Black Hawk County Crash
One teenager who attended Union High School is dead after a devastating car crash earlier this week.
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading causes of death for teens in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control.
The fatal crash rate for teens between the ages of sixteen and nineteen is three times higher than drivers who are over the age of twenty.
An Eastern Iowa football player's life was cut short due to a deadly accident.
According to Black Hawk County Sheriff officials, on Tuesday, September 10th a Nissan Pathfinder full of five teenagers ran a red light near Jesup. Reports claim that this car was heading south on South Canfield Road around 9:45 PM.
These teens are students at Union Community School District in La Porte City. They were driving home from a volleyball game in Oelwein when the incident took place, according to reports.
They failed to stop at the stop sign at the Dubuque Road intersection and ended up colliding with 53-year-old Pamela Euans of Hazleton.
Euans had to be airlifted to the University of Iowa Health Care. There is no word on how severe her injuries are.
Status of the Teens in the Nissan Pathfinder
One of the teens involved in the crash was reportedly pronounced dead upon the scene by EMS. The name of the deceased teen is Gavin Rohrbach of LaPorte City.
Rohrbach was a seventeen-year-old football player for Union High School.
The rest of the teens in the vehicle were taken to local hospitals and are reportedly going to be alright.
Union Community School District's Response
On Wednesday, September 11th, officials from the school district announced that they would be cancelling all extra-curricular and co-curricular activities through Sunday, September 15th due to this tragedy.
