Todd Shute Wins Night 3 of the IMCA Frostbuster

A total of 207 cars signed in to race from 11 different states and one Canadian providence during the third night of the IMCA Frostbuster. Todd Shute topped the huge IMCA Modified for the $1,000 payday.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Northern SportMods 20 lap feature and it was Doug Smith and Tyler Soppe lead the field to the green in what was a caution filled feature event. Smith took the lead but just after the completion of lap two the caution came out when six cars got together in turn four. Two more cautions came out on lap three and four but Smith was able to get a full straight-away before the final cautions was displayed on lap 15. Smith went on to take the win over 15th place starter Tracy Wassenberg, 13th place starter Hunter Parsons, 24th place starter Lucas Lambries and Cameron Meyer.

Billy Rhodes took the early lead in the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature. On lap five though it was Austin Luellen making the pass for the lead. Luellen took the win over John Watson, Benji Irvine, Eric Stanton and Justin Lichty.

The IMCA Stock Cars feature lived up to their name of the Class to Tough Tame for their 20 lap feature as there was exciting action through out the field. Steve Meyer grabbed the early lead but just after one lap was completed the caution came out. Meyer though continue to lead despite the several battles behind him but on lap ten it was Randy Brands that took the top spot. After Brands showed the top line was the faster line in turns three and four it was him able to hold on to take the win. Damon Murty, Trent Murphy, Steve Meyer and Donavon Smith rounded out the top five.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature event. Todd Shute and Ronn Lauritzen redrew the front row and it was Shute taking advantage by taking the lead. The caution came out just after the complete of lap one for Jacob Murray in turn four. Shute was not going to let that bother him as he continues to lead the way and pulled away but it was cautions on lap 13 and 15 to see if Shute was the man to win tonight. Shute got great restarts both times and went on to lead the remaining laps to take the win to give him the Frostbuster Points Series lead. Adam Larson finished 2nd, Mike Mullen was 3rd, Luke Wanninger was 4th and Jason Wolla was 5th.

Racing action for our 51st season continues next Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway as track points begin for Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Mod Lites. Hot Laps at 7:00 PM and Racing at 7:30 PM.
