The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is encouraging people in Iowa to cook their meat properly amid a salmonella outbreak.

The CDC and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is investigating the rise of Salmonella Dublin. That's the bacteria that has sickened 10,  including eight hospitalizations and even one death.

The cases were reported in here in Iowa (one case) and California, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, according to the CDC outbreak map.


Consumers of beef are advised to handle and cook ground beef thoroughly, to a temperature of 160 degrees.


The CDC says most people infected with salmonella will endure diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps from 12 to 72 hours after exposure.

After four to seven days of sickness, most people recover without treatment.

Others including children and seniors may endure more issues that may require hospitalization and medication. If you think you have bad beef, or meat of any kind, the CDC says to ALWAYS throw it away or return it to the store for a refund when possible.
