Susie Barker Liles Burchett, the mother of Love and Theft bandmate Stephen Barker Liles, died on Tuesday (Nov. 5) after a three-year battle with ALS. She was also the mother of another member of the country music industry, Rebekah Liles, who is Curb | Word Entertainment's director of country A&R.

"The love from the country music and ALS community has been overwhelmingly comforting to me and my family," Barker Liles stated in a press release following his mom's death. "We are so grateful for all artists that have donated their time at events to help raise awareness for this devastating disease. Her memory will live on in all of our hearts and in our ALS charity forever."

Following Burchett's 2017 diagnosis, her musical family formed a partnership with the ALS Association of Tennessee, hosting two Shine for Susie Benefit Concerts in Nashville and Clarksville in the ensuing years. Florida Georgia Line, Lauren Alaina, Canaan Smith, Parmalee and more artists participated in the shows, which raised funds and awareness for those affected by the devastating illness.

While Burchett may have been the literal mother of two members of the country music family, many others within the genre remember her as a mother-like figure. She always made sure to extend holiday and family invitations to industry friends who did not have families in the Nashville area.

"Lights that burn bright never burn out. She made her mark on me through her unwavering faith in Jesus," comments Canaan Smith. "Her prayers will live on and not return void. God bless you, sweet Susie. Time to go dancing with the angels."

Services and visitation for Burchett will be held on the morning of Monday (Nov. 11) at the First Baptist Church of Clarksville in Clarksville, Tenn. Smith and Lauren Coplan will perform music during the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those wishing to express their condolences donate to the Shine for Susie ALS Fund by Hark-ALS.
