Six Teens Arrested in Connection to Des Moines East Shooting
Yesterday, it was shared by a multitude of news networks across the country that three teens had been shot at Des Moines East High School. It's since been confirmed by KWWL, as well as others, that one of the teens that was shot has died and the other two are in critical condition. The boy who was killed, Jose David Lopez of Des Moines, was just 15 years old, according to KCCI.
The two girls in critical condition are 16 and 18 years old.
As of this morning, it was reported by the Des Moines Register that six teenagers have been arrested and are being charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Here's what The Register learned about the shooting:
"The fatal victim was the intended target, the two other victims were not, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the Des Moines Police Department. Parizek said the gunfire came from multiple shooters and from multiple vehicles."
The teens being charged are:
- Octavio Lopez, 17

- Manuel Buezo, 16
- Romero Perdomo, 16
- Alex Perdomo, 15
- Henry Valladares-Amaya, 17
All of the teens arrested are of Des Moines.
Parizek added this:
While this incident occurred outside of a school, it could have occurred in any one of our neighborhoods. The school is where the suspects found their target. Within one hour of the incident, almost all of the suspects were in custody. Within several hours, all were.
Five residential search warrants and six vehicle search warrants have been executed within the city. Six firearms have been recovered.
Names of the victims, nor the motive were provided.
Classes are canceled today in response to the killing. Grief counselors will be available for students and staff all week.
The Register adds that a multitude of government agencies are investigating: "Des Moines police continue to investigate the shooting, along with the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Iowa State Patrol, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and the Des Moines Public Schools Department of Public Safety."
