Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are investigating a weekend drowning on the Mississippi River near Guttenberg in northeast Iowa.

Authorities identified the victim as Shaun Oppenheimer, 54, of Quasqueton. They said Oppenheimer fell off a boat while fishing Saturday afternoon. His body was recovered.

According to DNR officials, Oppenheimer was one of two men who were in a 14-foot-long boat that was in a restricted area near Lock and Dam No. 10. Authorities said their boat got caught in the turbulent waters of a low-head dam and began taking on water. Opperman went overboard and drowned.

Neither man was wearing a flotation device, although two were on the boat.
