Heinz has started a petition to get companies who make hot dogs and hot dog buns to start packaging their product in the same quantity.

Hot dogs traditionally come in packs of ten while most buns are sold in eights. According to Food & Wine, Heinz wants 10 to become the universal standard for hot dog buns in a package.

As of Thursday morning (7/8), more than 11,000 people have signed the petition. (Sign it HERE)

According to the petition started by Heinz Ketchup at change.org:

Hot dog wieners come in packs of 10. Hot dog buns come in packs of 8. WHY?! As the condiment that has been bringing foods together for over 150 years, we’ve decided enough is enough. That’s why we started the Heinz Hot Dog Pact. We’re calling on Big Bun and Big Wiener companies to find the answer to this hot dog packaging mismatch, once and for all. We need your signatures more than ever. Let’s change hot dog history together.

Some of the comments on the petition are hilarious…and true:
Jordan Simon in Chicago wrote:

Every last wiener deserves to be stuffed into a bun. Plain and simple. Don't crush my soul and make me put the last two wieners on bread.

Jake Johnathon added:

We need 5 packages of buns and 4 packages of wieners just to get a balance in our lives. 40 hot dogs?????? That’s too many. Let’s bring it down to one package of each.

Even the great comedian Mitch Hedberg had this idea years ago in his “Live in Chicago” special saying, “If I bought a company that made hot dog buns, on Day 1 we would add 2 buns to every package... Day 2 work on deliciousness."

Steve Martin even had an entire scene dedicated to the Hot Dog to Bun Ratio in the 1991 movie “Father of the Bride.”

Even songs have been dedicated to this dilemma:
