A 125 year old Victorian-era mansion still stands proud mixed into a normal neighborhood in Parkersburg. History lovers will have to wait until this winter to celebrate this beautiful hidden gem's birthday.

The Queen Anne-style, Wolf Mansion, located at 401 5th Street, was built by Charles Wolf in 1895. The "125th Anniversary Birthday Bash" was slated for this weekend, but like everything else, it had to be postponed due to the on-going pandemic. It is now slated for early December. However, the mansion and museum is open for tours this Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th from 1-3pm along with each following Sunday from 1-3pm through Labor Day and by appointment at (319) 231-0079. Tours are free, however donations are welcome.

Sadly, Wolf died suddenly in 1921, so it was only used as a home for about 31 years. According to the Parkersburg IA Historical Society's Facebook page,

"it was completed in November of 1895 at a cost of $35,000. It was used as the private residence of Charles C. & Mary A. Wilson Wolf until 1926 when it was sold at public auction for $8000. In 1929, it was gifted to the City of Parkersburg to be used as a Community House and was extensively remodeled to house the public library, community organizations and also provided a hall for banquets, receptions and dances until 1970, when the City turned it over to the newly formed Parkersburg Historical Society. Since that time many resources and volunteer hours have been spent restoring the beautiful Queen Anne style Victorian home to its former glory."

In 1979, The mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it's also on the Preservation Iowa's Most Endangered Property List.
